Agricultural Engineer II - Cape Town / Johannesburg at Unitrans

Job Advert Summary    
Unitrans is seeking an experienced Agricultural Engineer II to contribute to the Agriculture division, working alongside the Business Development team. 

Conducting research, analysis, and design tasks.  Development and implementation of agricultural engineering projects and technologies. Analyse, design, configure, develop, test and deploy release management tools and processes required to automate the production infrastructure. Assisting with the building and setting up of infrastructure and development tools. Enables the automation and continuous integration and delivery as well as the configuration management of all development, quality assurance and production servers. 

Minimum Requirements    

• Tertiary qualification in Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of three (3) years’ in an Agricultural environment / industry
• Experience in logistics and operations advantageous
• Experience with QGIS or similar smart farming technologies advantageous
• Exposure to Agriculture 4.0 advantageous
• Commercialisation mindset required for working on the technical solution development of improvement initiatives and new projects
• Experience with managing engineering projects, from concept to implementation
• Experience with equipment selection/design
• Experience with Client Relationship Management
• Proven knowledge of Sugarcane Operations advantageous
• Experience using AutoCAD

Duties & Responsibilities    

• Ensure alignment of project task costs to the relevant costings and budgets
• Source equipment quotes from suppliers
• Assist in growing the business by researching and implementing new, innovative solutions
• Lead and manage the implementation of new ideas
• Support business development team on specifying correct solutions for tenders
• Keep track and propose of Continuous Improvement (CI) solutions
• Travel to sites to support team when required
• Ensure project tasks are delivered within scope, budget and on time
• Maintain and monitor project plans and time scales
• Ensure project deadlines are met
• Providing administrative support as needed
• Prepare implementation progress reports timely and accurately
• Assess project risks and issues and provide solutions where applicable
• Presentations to customers on solutions
• Liaise with service providers on resolution of key issues identified
• Company code of conduct, policies and procedures are adhered to
• Develop performance standards
• Measure performance according to standards
• Evaluate performance on a regular basis
• Correct performance when required policies and procedures are implemented
